units of measurement

Barometric (Atmospheric) pressure readings from the Bureau of Meteorology and media outlets are given in Hectopascals (hPa). Another unit sometimes encountered is the Millibar (mbar or mb). Hectopascals and Millibars are equal to each other (1 hPa = 1 mbar).

Most of the barometers we sell have dials that show Hectopascals (hPa). The usual range for 'hPa' includes the numbers 990 through to around 1040.

If your barometer has a range that includes the numbers 740 to 780 the units are probably 'millimeters of mercury' (mmHg).

If your barometer has a range including the numbers 29 to 31, the units of measurement are 'inches of mercury' (inHg).
